Meet Your Goodbye Doula:

Allison Walker Toronto

A lifetime of experiences has prepared me for this work. As a mother of seven children, and having grown up in a family of seven children, I've had loads of practice managing details and people, and navigating complex, family dynamics.

I cared for my father and mother after they each learned of their terminal diagnoses. Watching my mother take her last breath is a cherished memory. While serving as one of the executors for my parent's estate, I learned firsthand about the financial and legal obligations that come with that responsibility.

My sister-in-law's terminal diagnosis followed a few years later. Then, in 2023, I was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer. Thankfully, I am now cancer free. All of these personal experiences taught me the importance of facing your own mortality, dying on your own terms, and transitioning in the most peaceful way possible. I feel called and well-qualified to offer this much needed service, knowing how difficult it is for many people to plan for or talk about death.

Why I Chose to Be
An End-of-Life Doula
My Qualifications and Experience

While there are currently no federally mandated regulations overseeing this profession, I have completed the End-of-Life Doula Training program from the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA), the oldest accreditation doula organization. I hold a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education from Brigham Young University. A lifetime of family and volunteer work has honed my skills and deepened my compassionate heart.

Concerned about the growing mental health epidemic, I completed a Mental Health First Aid Certification Course provided by the Jefferson Center in Colorado, and served as a facilitator for a ten week Emotional Resilience course while living in Manila, Philippines in 2022.

As a teaching instructor, I have decades of experience in public speaking and teaching children. I was a presenter at the A.S.I.A (Associated Sisters in Asia) Women’s Conference in Hong Kong in March, 2024.

Preserving family memories has been a passion of mine for decades. I have created many photo books and photo slideshows over the years. One of my hobbies is photography. For an example of my work, I took all of the pictures on the Adieula website except for the ones with me in it.

I manage a private practice and limit the amount of clients I assume at any given time. Consequently, I have more freedom than hospice center doulas who must conform to company policies. This allows me to offer a wider range of services and cater to your specific needs.

My Personality and Doula Style

I feel comfortable dealing with circumstances which make the average person uncomfortable. Just like my experience in giving birth seven times, I understand the process of dying can be a natural, messy, and painful experience, but at the same time, a deeply meaningful one.

While living in Southeast Asia from 2020-2024, I traveled to nineteen countries throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and became better acquainted with the practices of many world religions. While I am a deeply spiritual person, I am committed to honoring and respecting your faith tradition and preferences, including your preference to have none.

I’m competent and compassionate —pragmatism mixed with a warm, emotional hug. I can check things off your to-do list or sit beside you and deeply listen. I can flex to whatever you need in the moment.

You can't "do over" this moment so it's important to get it right. I recognize the idea of inviting a stranger into your life right now can be unnerving. During an initial consultation, you'll have a chance to see if we are a good fit and discuss your specific needs. If you ever become dissatisfied, you are free to discontinue my services at any time.
